Starting May 22nd at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Shark Summer!
Sharks—the ocean’s ultimate predators have navigated the seas for 400 million years…long before the first dinosaurs roamed the Earth. For generations, countless mariners’ tales and accounts of close encounters have inspired fear and awe in these powerful and graceful creatures. Starting May 22, 2009 through September 7, 2009, the Aquarium of the Pacific will pay special homage to these remarkable animals with the debut of Shark Summer. The public will get closer to sharks and rays than they ever imagined as they dive into their world and learn how to help protect them and their ocean home. Shark Summer will feature new and unique animals, a new interactive area, a film, interactive family programs, and even opportunities to feed a shark.
The Aquarium will feature various species of sharks and rays, including a new animal known as a shark-ray. This rare animal can weigh nearly 300 pounds and grow up to 8 feet in length. In addition to finding sharks and rays throughout the Aquarium’s exhibits, guests can touch over 200 sharks and rays and discover a newly themed area called the Shark Zone. This outdoor area will feature shark activities, including crafts, games, appearances by shark and ray mascots, and the interactive Shark Cart where a growing baby shark can be seen inside its egg case. The Aquarium will also feature its new film Shark Smart in its Honda Theater and the new Sharklock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Mahi interactive family program in the Marine Life Theater daily.
Your ticket takes you on a journey through California’s coastal regions and the fascinating creatures inhabiting the Pacific Ocean. With Whales: Experience our multimedia presentation of the blue whale's journey through the depths of the Pacfic, see the California Seal Lions in the Southern California/Baja Gallery. Get “hands-on” at the touch tank with the gentle and fascinating skates and rays. In the Northern Pacific Gallery, you’ll see playful sea otters, a giant octopus, Japanese spider crabs and more. In the Tropical Pacific Gallery, passing through the Soft Coral Tunnel you’ll encounter Tiger Sharks, Great Barracuda and a wide variety of colorful tropical fish. The Aquarium of the Pacific tour will keep you amazed with over 12,000 inhabitants representing 550 individual marine species at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Tickets valid thru 12/31/2010.
Eticket orders are processed throughout the day and emailed to you the same day you order. Your etickets are not sent immediately. Final eticket orders are sent between 3-5pm. Eticket orders placed after 5pm will be emailed between 5-6am the following morning. A 4% processing fee is applied on all orders.
